  • Hook......... Mustad 9671, size 8
  • Thread....... Brown
  • Tail............ Pheasant tail fibers
  • Weight........12 turns of .020 lead wire
  • Abdomen.. Brown olive dubbing
  • Rib ............Brown thread or copper wire
  • Back .........Dark brown Swiss straw
  • Legs ..........Reddish brown hackle
  • Thorax .......Black deer hair

Directions

  1. Bend the barb down on the hook.
  2. Bend the shank of the hook with a pair of pliers.
  3. Wrap a layer of thread on the rear half of the shank.
  4. Counter-wind a layer of lead wire on the rear half of the shank.
  5. Coat the lead with head cement.
  6. Dub a thin layer of dubbing over the lead.
  7. Tie on a length Swiss straw on the end of the abdomen.
  8. On either side of the abdomen, tie on a tail. The length of the tail should be equal to the length of the shank.
  9. Tie on the ribbing on the side of the abdomen.
  10. Dub a thick layer of dubbing.
  11. Pull the Swiss straw forward and tie it down at the beginning of the thorax.
  12. Wind a rib over the adbomen, tie it down and clip the excess.
  13. Tie on the hackle at the beginning of the thorax.
  14. Cut off a hank of deer hair. Cut off about 3/8 inch of deer hair.
  15. Spin a thorax of deer hair. Use the pinch method and try to catch the deer hair in the middle with the thread.
  16. Palmer (wind) the hackle through the thorax.
  17. Pull the Swiss straw forward and tie off. Clip the excess.
  18. Whip finish.
