With an average yearly
snowfall of over 200 inches, the Tug Hill area is a
magnet for snowmoblers and cross country skiers. There
are many trails nearby for
cross-country skiers. These trails are available for
hiking during the summer. The lodge is close to eastern Lake Ontario . The eastern Lake Ontario dune and wetlands is an unique ecosystem with many areas available to the public for hiking and wild life viewing. The Black Pond Wildlife Management area, north of Southwick State Park is 526 acres containing sand dunes as well as unique plants and wildlife. Lakeview Marsh Wildlife Management Area (3,461 acres) contains hiking trails boat launches, hunting and fishing areas, observation towers and much more. Sandy Pond Beach Natural Area is located on a small peninsula of land between Lake Ontario and Sandy Pond. It is open for beach use and hiking and bird watching. Deer Creek Wildlife Management Area (1,195 acres), south of Sandy Pond has canoeing, hunting, fishing and hiking along the beach. |
